Dave
Cave was what Robb had written.
He didn’t know what that meant. Couldn’t
remember. He pulled out his phone to dial Dave’s number but then remembered
that he was going to help Dave steal something. Something out of a cave. He
squinted and looked at the words again.
Robb had wanted to get a gun for whatever
Dave Cave had meant. He wasn’t sure why. It just seemed appropriate. From the
way Dave had been talking about it, it sounded like whatever they were stealing
was being held by some fucking dangerous people. Robb felt like it’d be better
to find a way to convince Dave to not do it.
Friends don’t let friends do stupid things. Although Robb had failed to
stop Dave before…
Robb grabbed a can of soda from the
fridge and took it with him to the living room. He cleared a spot on the table
and put his can there, and turned on the television. It was the news. They were
talking about the weather. It was getting colder. Big deal. It was the fall. Things were supposed to get colder.
Robb liked the cold.
Robb sent Dave a simple text, Call me when you finish doing whatever it is you’re doing right
now
He didn’t get a call right away so
Robb rose. He figured he could find weapon-y things in his garage. There were
certainly at least a few hatchets or something in his house. He could get
something to show Dave. Robb figured if Dave saw weapons he might realize how
stupid and dangerous his goal was.
The garage was the impromptu area
for storage. Robb used it efficiently. And by efficiently, it means he used it
to keep the rest of the house uncluttered. As one surveys the room from the
kitchen door, one may see that the first layer of boxes are placed on the floor
in rows, so that there was once order. But other boxes and clothes and bags
were placed haphazardly. It was a process that had taken years, but Robb
figured he finally looked like a
hoarder.
Robb spent a few minutes walking
past boxes and things, giving them a glance to see if he could see any weapons
at first. He found a baseball bat but remembered it as the bat his father had
given him, so he figured it’d be fucking disrespectful to use it to hurt someone.
He tried to find something better for a few
minutes but passed by a box he didn’t recognize. It was buried under a duffle
bag, and the only reason he saw it was because the word “candles” was written
on the side. Robb tossed the empty bag aside and looked at the brown cardboard
box. Robb didn’t realize he’d had a box of candles. When he opened it he saw
that there weren’t any candles inside.
Just a silver pendant.
